As a child, seeing the sign “please don’t touch” Â in large black letters taped to a shelf of shiny glass objects was pure torture. How could I not reach up and hold the gloriously interesting spheres of highly breakable glass?

The same may be true for an automobile connoisseur who walks past a gleaming new Lamborghini Gallardo.

But there are reasons we do not play with expensive things we do not own:

A man crashed a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo yesterday during a test drive of the supercar on the streets of Sydney, Australia.

A salesman for the dealership selling the Gallardo was sitting in the passenger seat at the time but fortunately no one was seriously injured.

According to a report by local newspaper the Daily Telegraph, first picked up by Jalopnik, the driver of the exotic panicked momentarily and crashed into a roadside barrier.

The resulting damage included a completely wrecked front-end and the right wheel being torn from its axle.

While police are currently investigating the matter, a representative for the dealership said the car was fully insured and all legal precautions for the test drive were taken prior to the keys being handed over.

The representative also said that the driver was not speeding at the time of the crash and won’t have to pay any damages.

Of course, it’s very rare that a driver simply panics and crashes this violently, so there is a chance that some charges may be applied. Police say they have some witnesses.Â

What a terrible time to panic.
